CuMinds. E-Learning Platform with Payments, Certificates & WhatsApp Automation
A career-focused learning platform where learners buy a course, study, earn a certificate and get updates on WhatsApp, all without manual work from the team. The site is also faster: its desktop PageSpeed score rose from 52 to 75.

Overview
CuMinds is an Indian online learning platform. It offers career-focused courses for students and working professionals, from technology and data skills to career guidance. Learners browse courses, enrol, study video lessons and take a final evaluation.
CuMinds asked us to turn the existing site into a complete learning business. That meant a proper checkout with coupons, progress tracking, certificates that issue themselves, WhatsApp messages at key moments and safer sign-in, while making the whole platform faster.

The challenge
The platform could show courses and play lessons, but much of the work around them was manual or missing. There was no full checkout with offers, no record of a learner's progress, and certificates were not tied to actually finishing a course. Learners heard nothing after buying unless someone contacted them.
The site was also slow. Every page change downloaded the whole course list again, large images and many tracking scripts loaded on every click, and buyers waited on a spinner while the server sent emails after payment.
Goals
- Add a secure checkout with coupons, order history and receipts
- Track lesson progress and issue certificates automatically when a learner finishes
- Message learners on WhatsApp when they buy a course and when they earn a certificate
- Let learners sign in with email or mobile and reset a password with a one-time code
- Make the site noticeably faster on mobile and desktop

Our approach
We started with an audit of the existing React frontend and Laravel API to find what was missing, what was slow, and where a learner's journey broke.
We then built the learner journey from start to finish: checkout and payment, progress, evaluation, certificate, and the WhatsApp messages linking them. Every price and every evaluation score is calculated on the server, so neither can be changed from the browser.
For speed, we measured first and fixed the biggest costs: repeated data downloads, heavy images, duplicate tracking scripts and slow work done during the payment response.
Every change went through a staging server and was tested there before release, using the client's GitHub Actions pipeline to deploy to AWS. We delivered the work in about six weeks.
Key decisions
- The server decides prices and scores. Coupons, totals and evaluation results are calculated on the server, so a learner can't change a price or read the correct answers in the browser.
- Certificates are earned, not handed out. A certificate is issued when a learner completes every lesson and submits the evaluation. It's stored permanently, so it can be downloaded again at any time.
- WhatsApp first, with approved templates. Messages use Meta-approved WhatsApp Business templates through Twilio, so they reach learners reliably, and every message's delivery status is tracked.
- Measure, then optimise. We recorded PageSpeed scores before any change and again after, so every improvement is backed by a number.
What we built
- Checkout & paymentsA dedicated checkout page with Razorpay, where the price is calculated on the server and offers apply automatically.
- Coupons & offersDiscount codes and offers that learners can see and apply before paying.
- Order history & receiptsEvery purchase is listed in the learner's account with a downloadable receipt.
- Lesson progress trackingProgress is saved lesson by lesson and shown as a progress card on each course page.
- WishlistLearners can save courses to buy later.
- My Courses dashboardOne place for courses, orders, certificates and offers, with a "Start learning" button that opens the course straight after purchase.
- Automatic certificatesPDF certificates are generated when a learner finishes the course and submits the evaluation, and can be downloaded at any time.
- Server-scored evaluationsAnswers are checked on the server, and the correct answers are never sent to the browser.
- WhatsApp purchase confirmationAn instant message with the course name and a link to start learning.
- WhatsApp certificate deliveryA congratulations message with the certificate PDF attached.
- Login with email or mobileLearners sign in with either one plus a password; mobile numbers include the country code.
- Password reset by one-time codeA 6-digit code is sent by WhatsApp or email. Codes are stored hashed, expire in 10 minutes and are rate-limited.
- Session-expired noticeWhen a login session ends, learners see a clear message and are logged out properly, instead of a half-logged-in page.
- Faster payment confirmationA "Confirming your payment" screen, with the purchase email sent in the background so buyers aren't kept waiting.

The results
Learners now go from purchase to certificate with no manual steps from the CuMinds team, and get a WhatsApp message at each key moment. The site's desktop PageSpeed score rose from 52 to 75, and its mobile score from 27 to 37.
Two automated WhatsApp journeys run on their own: one on purchase, one on certificate. Password reset uses 10-minute one-time codes, stored hashed and rate-limited. One shared, cached course list replaced a full re-download on every page change, images moved to WebP and duplicate tracking scripts were removed.
Tech & delivery
CuMinds was designed and built by the Prognesoft team over 6 weeks, following our process: discovery, architecture and design, development and testing, then launch and support. Every change was tested on a staging server before it was released through the client's GitHub Actions pipeline to AWS.
