Overview
This is an internal Prognesoft product: a real-time messaging application for one-to-one and group conversations.
People expect messaging to feel instant and private. We set out to deliver both, without compromising either.

The challenge
Speed and security pull in different directions. Every message needs to be delivered in well under a second, even at scale, while end-to-end encryption adds work to every message sent and received.
The challenge was to implement reliable end-to-end encryption without degrading the user experience.
Goals
- Deliver messages in under a second, at scale
- Support individual and group chats
- Share media and send push notifications
- Protect every conversation with end-to-end encryption
Our approach
WebSockets keep a live connection open between the app and the server, so messages are pushed the moment they are sent rather than fetched periodically.
Firebase supports the real-time back end and push notifications, while React Native gives one app for both iOS and Android.
We built end-to-end encryption into the messaging flow itself and measured delivery speed throughout, so security never came at the cost of a slower conversation.
The app was built in three months.
Key decisions
- Push, don't poll. WebSocket connections deliver each message the moment it is sent.
- Encryption in the core flow. End-to-end encryption is part of how messages are sent, not an add-on.
- Speed measured throughout. Delivery time was tracked during the build, so security never slowed the conversation down.
